Fett hires a gang of teenage mods and the Wookie bounty hunter Black Krrsantan (who the Twins had sent to kill him) to bolster his numbers. The Twins pull out of the coming war and gift Fett with a rancor calf. Twin cousins of Jabba challenge Fett for their late cousin’s territory but soon learn that Mos Espa mayor Mok Shaiz has promised control of Tatooine to the Pykes. In the present, after having overthrown Fortuna, Fett has declared himself daimyo of Mos Espa and demands tribute from Jabba’s former vassals, though many refuse to respect his new authority. Though released from her debt, Shand decides to remain in Fett’s service upon hearing Fett’s proposal to build a crime house based on loyalty and respect. Indebted to him, Shand helps Fett recover his gunship from Jabba the Hutt’s palace, now run by Bib Fortuna. Fett wanders Tatooine alone until he happens upon the dying Fennec Shand, who he takes to a cybernetic mod artist in Mos Eisley to save her life. Fett attempts to collect protection money from the Pyke leader on Tatooine, but the Pykes covertly massacre the Tuskens, framing a gang of Nikto speed bikers as the culprit. Fett gains their respect after saving one of their young from a desert monster and is soon made a member of the tribe after leading a successful raid on a Pyke Syndicate spice train. While his armor is stolen by Jawas, Fett is captured and enslaved by a tribe of Tusken Raiders.
In flashbacks, Boba Fett narrowly escapes from the Sarlacc pit after the events of Return of the Jedi, falling unconscious after crawling out. The series has received generally mixed reviews from critics. The Book of Boba Fett premiered on December 29, 2021, and ran for seven episodes until February 9, 2022.
Filming had begun by that point, and lasted until June 2021.
A potential spin-off series was first reported in November 2020, and was officially announced in December. Several attempts were made at developing a standalone Star Wars film centered on Boba Fett before Lucasfilm began prioritizing its streaming series, such as The Mandalorian. All reprise their roles from The Mandalorian and other Star Wars media.
Temuera Morrison stars as the title character, with Ming-Na Wen and Pedro Pascal also starring. The Book of Boba Fett exists alongside The Mandalorian and its other spin-off Ahsoka.
